Cultural empathy is critical to effective counseling with increasingly diverse communities. Research demonstrates that cultural insensitivity can lead to misdiagnosis, early termination, and a weak therapeutic alliance (Sue et al., 2022).
Cultural empathy allows us to recognize how systemic forces such as discrimination, migration stress, racism, and stereotypes shape mental health issues and help-seeking behaviors (Sue et al., 2022).
